A True Titus Woman

...that they admonish the young women
                                                             (Titus 2 :4)

What a blessings, a sheer pleasure my friend and I had recently. We were able to sit at the feet (so to speak) of a godly elderly woman and learn of God’s true loving provision. We listened as she shared story after story of God’s amazing grace in her life. We rejoiced with her in the good times and to a degree felt the sorrow of the bad times. This beautiful wise woman told us of a love for her husband that last 25 years after his death, she remains his - unclaimed by any other man.

What a shame that the world no longer puts stock in those that are growing old. The world now labels them of little or no value. Most of the world refuses the wisdom their lives have reaped. Even in the churches, many put aside the aged to “make way” for the new generation. Some reject the sheer joy of listening to the testimony of God’s hand on the lives of these saints.

I was reminded yesterday that God has always had a plan for both the young and the old… He has a purpose in the aging progress if we will but heed God’s word. “the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teacher of good things – that they admonish (caution) the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. “ (Titus 2:3-5)

Admonish means to caution – discreet is to be tasteful or careful in all we do – chaste is to be faithful; I’ve looked at this scripture many times and longed to be like this biblical example of an older woman. Today however I met such a woman! Even her name states up front that she is a jewel, a piece of GOLD that God has used in His kingdom.  Thank you Miss Goldie for leaving foot prints worthy of following....

Do you know some older godly women? Perhaps even your own mother can be called a godly woman? Then why not find the time to listen to the stories they have to share of God’s loving provision. Not only will you be blessed but you just may find you have blessed them as well.

Be sure to visit Spiritual Sundays for encouraging posts - I know you will be blessed.

  2. God has a purpose for all his children old and young alike but the wisdom of the old is
to be received as gift to be treasured.

  5. Nice post. In a society that worships youth, it is rare to find young people who respect the elderly and stop texting or watching American Idol long enough to listen to them.

  6. Linda -

Indeed I have my mom and aunts who I believe are godly women. My two aunts are a lot like your Miss Goldie. Many years after the deaths of their husbands, they remain as widows not wanting to remarry but to remember and honor the marriage they have remained faithful to.

That's not to say Biblically they couldn't remarry, just that they hold their one and only marriage in high esteem. And I see how they model many of the characteristics in Titus that I hope the women in our family are able to learn from.

Thanks for such an inspiring post. God bless!

  7. Good Morning Linda Sweetie...
I thank you for the beautiful share this morning for Spiritual Sunday. I am enjoying myself visiting your blogs like going to many Sunday School classes. I have so enjoyed your share today.

Yes, the old has been pushed to the back in many places, but not in my home, or my parents, nor were my grandparents. The stories that we share with our children today from long ago will be shared for many years to come. Of that, I am sure of. I pray for families that do not allow the elderly to have a voice. They have so much to share and so long to be heard.

When my dear MIL (she had Alzheimers) had to be put in a nursing home, my DH, children and I went everyday. We met many older people that had been put there, left and no family ever came to see them.

We would spend many hours visiting with the forgotten ones. They had so much to share, and so wanted to be loved. They enjoyed our children. To this day my children, whom have children of their own, share the stories that they were told in that nursing home so many years ago.

We must continue to raise our children in this manner. To respect and love their elders as we have been taught to.

Thank you for the wonderful post. It has made my heart "happy" this morning. Thank you for sharing with me.

Please stop by Country Wings In Phoenix, my blog. Guideposts magazine is donating a dollar towards our next miracle makeover for each comment left and I want to make enough for several more makeovers. I know they are out there just waiting to be found.

I will be back to visit again. I have so enjoyed myself here. You blog is so warm with love. I tried adding myself to follow your blog, but the button would not take me. I will try again next visit.

    Country hugs sweet friend, Sherry

  8. What a honor to meet and visit with a Godly woman like Miss Goldie. It is so sad how society thinks of elderly people as invisible. Thank-you for sharing this with us today.
    God Bless,

  9. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. Older people are not appreciated as much in our society as in other places. I love to hear stories like this. Believe me before you know it you will be one of those older women. It certainly sneaked up on me fast. But it's OK. I'm looking forward to the future.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  11. This is such a beautiful post. It is a credit to the woman who wrote it as well as a tribute to the one who inspired it. There are many older people who would love to share the stories of how God has shaped their lives if we would only take the time to listen. Thank you for this valuable reminder.

  12. You are so right that we need to stop and take time to appreciate the older women in our lives. And BE the older women to those who are younger than us. At 47, I don't like to think of myself as "older", but to many women I am, so I need to accept that.

Blessings to you for sharing your story of Miss Goldie. What a precious woman she must be.

  13. What a fantastic post. When I was a young preacher especially but then throughout my 47 years of ministry, it was the older women of the church who encouraged me. I am grateful for each and every one of them. They blessed my life and encouraged me to live for Jesus and serve others. Thank you for this great post.
